| Notes | Transfer seems to be invalid. There is no "Application for Registration of Fee-simple,"
which is usually the first page in the transfer documents. There is a deed, but it
is not properly dated. There is a letter dated 1970-09-11 from the Land Registrar
(J.M.D. Tootill) to the companies' lawyer saying that because the original company
"expired" in 1951 and the land was transferred to the Crown then, the land actually
needs to be transferred to the first company after an order-in-council temporarily
recreates the old company for the purpose of transferring it to the new one. There
is an order in council recreating the old company with the transfer documents, but
the land was not apparently transferred from the Crown to it before this transfer
                                       was applied for. |

                        Terminology
Readers of these historical materials will encounter derogatory references to Japanese
Canadians and euphemisms used to obscure the intent and impacts of the internment
and dispossession. While these are important realities of the history, the Landscapes
of Injustice Research Collective urges users to carefully consider their own terminological
choices in writing and speaking about this topic today as we confront past injustice.
See our statement on terminology, and related sources here.
